Nearly twenty-five thousand homes in southeastern Queensland woke up lacking electricity on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms swept through the area, generating wind gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Substantial Ice Stones and Extensive Damage

Residents observed large ice chunks reaching sizes of seven centimeters in certain regions. Weather authorities announced that various areas across the state had been affected by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair power throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams working to address the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

Simultaneously, approximately 1,000 households in Victoria also encountered electricity disruptions after the capital city experienced its most precipitation in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams handled nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, mainly for building damage but also for downed trees and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing - numerous rescue reports
• Wyndham region - over 175 help reports

At one point on Sunday, in excess of twenty-eight thousand electricity consumers in the state were without power.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this week as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

Tuesday was forecast to be the most rainy day, with continued storm activity predicted across multiple regions of both states.

Safety Concern

Health officials warned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This warning comes after historical occurrences where similar conditions led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
